So, what is the deal with self published authors who are already raking it, ultimately signing up with traditional publishers? Why do they do it? When they can get more on their own, why do they want to give a major chunk to a publisher? They already have a platform, so they don’t need support on that end. They already have loyal readers. They already have sales. But then. That’s where the loophole exists. They have e-book sales. There is no distributor who gives them the kind of print coverage that a big name publisher does.
I know print on demand exists. But then it’s just too cumbersome, too time consuming for a writer to undertake. Even if they do partner with a specialty service which promises to get their book in Barnes and Noble and other bookstores, a self pubbed writer can never ever hope to get the distribution reach that a big publisher can provide. Maybe that’s a gap that a distributor can think of fulfilling? Not a publisher. A distributor.
What if they were to offer the same partnerships to self-publishers that they offer to these publishing houses? For a price of-course. Or profit sharing. Or both. Wouldn’t that be awesome?! Hello. Anyone out there listening?
